Look
This is the “black” version of Vosteed Mini Labrador knife. It’s black, sure but it feels more like an antiqued titanium knife.
The look is great. I don’t think this is really (necessarily) a “gentleman’s carry” knife but it fits the bill. It offers a small blade and looks great!
Open / Close / Lock
There’s really just one way to open the Vosteed Mini Labrador knife. It’s a flipper, and there’s a prominent flipper tab on the back.
The knife is easy to flip open. If you have big ol meaty paws it might be harder, since this is a small knife. But by gripping the Mini Labrador with just a couple of fingers well placed and flipping with your index, you can make it fly open.
Here’s how I hold it. The pinky there is super relevant for opening this (and really any) flipper.
The Vosteed Mini Labrador knife is a frame lock, which means the whole scale slides into place by tension to prevent the blade from closing. Lockup has been great in all my testing.
The area that’s used for unlocking the knife and closing it is also sufficiently prominent.
Build and Feel
The build quality is great. Also, the design choices are reasonable. Below you can see the backspacer on the clip end. It seems to be titanium too, and speaks to the good design choices by Vosteed.
On the pivot area, only one side is a screw. The other side (below) is a blank (or, the backside of the screw.)
The pivot screw is adjustable. I also got some more info (from an expert friend) about the TORX screw in the frame lock part there. That does hold in a little piece of stainless, but the point is not really as I had suspected, but so that you don’t have titanium on titanium there. Ti on ti can gall, and will wear, but the main point is more so that it’s a different metal. Anyway, it’s a nice touch.
The drop point blade is also black, stated as “black stonewash.” It’s a fantastic finish and the stonewash should disguise wear very nicely.

Here’s the Vosteed Mini Labrador knife in hand. My hands are exactly normal-sized sized, have been all my life.
Below you can see the Vosteed Mini Labrador knife with the venerable Convoy S2+. The version below is a custom laser-engraved Convoy S2+ host by GadgetConnections.com. I did a full post on an engraved orange host right here! Or go straight to GadgetConnections.com to buy your Convoy S2+ now!
Also above is the knife beside a TorchLAB BOSS 35, an 18350 light. I reviewed the aluminum version of that light in both 35 and 70 formats. I also reviewed that specific edition, the “Oveready BOSS FT Collector Vintage Brass” 35. I love it!
Below is the Vosteed Mini Labrador knife with the Civivi Elementum. I still use that knife so much!
Steel / Cut / Oats
Vosteed went with a 14C28N steel for the Mini Labrador.
Here’s what seems like a very descriptive dialogue on this steel:
https://us.santokuknives.co.uk/blogs/blog/all-about-14c28n-steel-the-ultimate-guide
The summary is that it seems like a fine choice.
Retention
A pocket clip is included, and attached. There’s just one TORX screw holding it in place
It seems like the clip is in the same places as the post inside the scales, which probably means that the clip can be placed on the opposite side. If so, this is a fantastic design, because it allows the side opposite to where the clip is to be completely blank! No (extra) screw holes!
There’s also a lanyard hole, which you can see above.
Also included is this zipper pouch. This is an updated version, and I think it’s a bit better than we’ve seen out of any of these pouches in the past (“any” because many brands use this same style pouch). On this one, the zipper is more toward the edge, which means more interior space. I like it better.
Summary and Conclusion
The Vosteed Mini Labrador knife is a good choice for a titanium gentleman’s carry. The 14C28N steel seems like a good choice, especially since many other knives use other steel – this could be a good low-cost way to get into this steel! The build quality is great and the whole package at around $70 seems like a deal.
