Build Quality of the Nitecore NB Plus lightweight powerbank

The build quality is very good. There’s no disassembly here, but the product feels like a LiPO battery with a carbon fiber wrapper. The carbon fiber is fantastic, too.

Power

The Nitecore NB Plus lightweight powerbank has a built-in 10,000mAh LiPO that can charge at 5V or 9V.

More about the ports below!

The device can output way more than the charging options, though!

Charging

That 10,000mAh LiPO is charged via this USB-C port on the flat side of the device. It’s labeled “IN/OUT2.”

Four LEDs describe the current state of charge.

Four constant blue LEDs: 75-100%
Three constant blue LEDs: 50-75%
Two constant blue LEDs: 25-50%
One constant blue LED: 3-25%
One flashing blue LED: 0-3%

Here’s a charging test for a number of ways to charge – C to C and A to C. Interestingly, even at 9V, it’s only 9V intermittently. I can’t explain that. (Output is the same way – see those graphs below).

User Interface and Operation

There are no switches on the Nitecore NB Plus lightweight powerbank. That little power icon on the left (below) does look like it might be a switch, but I think it’s not so much a switch as it is a sensor. Nitecore NB Plus Powerbank ports

And it does seem to be a sensor. Touching the front or sides of the Nitecore NB Plus lightweight powerbank anywhere doesn’t cause any result, but touching the power icon causes the battery indicator to light up for a few seconds.

Testing the Nitecore NB Plus lightweight powerbank

This is just going to be a data dump – if you’re interested in specifics, check these graphs! Output at 5V, 9V, and 12V works fine, with the caveat that 9V and 12V aren’t steady at those voltages. They proceed at 9 or 12V, then dip down to 5V to either recover or for the rest of the charge cycle. USB-A output, on the other hand, outputs steady 12V output for a while, then drifts down to around 9V, then finally flips over to a steady 5V.

Summary and Conclusion on the Nitecore NB Plus lightweight powerbank

I like this powerbank quite a bit and think it’ll be very useful for a few reasons. First, the capacity of 10,000mAh is big enough to charge most iPhone and probably charge other devices with bigger batteries at least a bit. (For example, the iPad Pro battery size is just over 10,000mAh itself!) Secondly, the Nibtecore NB Plus lightweight powerbank has both USB-C and USB-A ports. That’s great for legacy devices (of which I have many). Despite having the (fairly thick) USB-A port, the Nitecore NB Plus lightweight powerbank itself is still remarkably thin! I doubt it could be much thinner and still have a USB-A port.

What I like about the Nitecore NB Plus lightweight powerbank

  • USB-C port is good for charging and discharging
  • The use of carbon fiber
  • Very simple to use
  • Has a USB-A port

What I don’t like

  • Cost
  • Very personal preference, but I’d love for this device to have flat sides (just like the main/front side does).
