Vosteed Corgi Micarta Knife Review
The Vosteed Corgi has dropped and is an impressive 3-inch knife with micarta scales! This button lock opens multiple ways, too! Read on!
Official Specs

Versions
As with many other Vosteed knives (indeed with their other products, too, like the Rook), the Corgi is available in multiple finishes. There’s black with a stonewashed blade (as seen here). Green is also available, but with two blade options: stonewashed or a PVD coated blade. Gray with a satin blade is also available (but gray appears to be G10, not micarta).
Price
The Vosteed Corgi micarta knife sells for $59. I don’t think it’s available on amazon.com right not but probably will be soon.
Short Review
I love this knife – it feels just right in the hand. It’s fantastic for a fidget, despite being very sharp (I haven’t cut my body off yet.) The multiple ways to open the Corgi just add to the fidget factor. Micarta is a great choice (again) from Vosteed, and I like the various color and finish options, too. I’m also satisfied with the price, at $59.

Look
The other versions of the Vosteed Corgi micarta knife are great, but I have to say this black micarta is really set off by the gold accents… This knife is a looker!
One thing you might note about the Vosteed Corgi micarta knife is that it’s a very symmetrical knife. More on that later!
The micarta provides ample grip.
Branding across the whole knife is very subtle, including this label of “Vosteed” here at the base of the blade.
Open / Close / Lock
Mainly, the Vosteed Corgi micarta knife is a flipper. It can be flipped two ways.
The first is what I’d consider a more traditional flipping style. That is flipping with the index finger right over top of the blade.
Both sides have a flipper “tab” though, and so if you have the dexterity to hold the knife sort of in your palm while flipping with your thumb, then this knife is conducive to that. I do not have the dexterity for that, and cut myself just thinking about it.
Interestingly, because of this design, the knife can stand up on the “cat ears.” That’s a fun feature!
The other way to open the Corgi is probably the best way, but maybe less obvious (and I don’t know the name of this style.) You can disengage the button lock and flick the blade out with wrist motion. It’s basically the same action as you’ve seen all the people open Benchmade Axis locks quickly. It’s very good. Also very quick. And conceivably threatening? Nah… Opening the Corgi with a button lock in this way is most (or only?) suitable for right-handed users.
Build and Feel
The Vosteed Corgi is a very straight knife with micarta scales. As stated above, the micarta is fantastic. It adds a great amount of grip while still making the knife very accessible in and out of the pocket.
One thing you might notice (in particular from the photos below) is the base of the blade (that is near the pivot) is the same on both sides. This does mean you’ll have to pay attention to some other aspects of the knife when trying to open it. Otherwise you’ll hold the knife in such a way that the blade is palm-side. Two things could orient you – the pocket clip and the button lock.
There is no detent along the blade pathway to fully open.
The build quality is very good. But that’s no surprise – all the other Vosteed knives I’ve handled have been great, too. Below, you can (barely) see the backspacer. First, there’s a metal standoff. But the backspacer is matching micarta. It’s a nice touch!
The blade spine is slightly broken, so it’s not sharp at all. That’s what I’d want, but if you want a knife for striking flint or something, you probably should look at some other knives.

Below is the Corgi with the Civivi Elementum, a knife I really like!
Steel / Cut / Oats
Vosteed states the Corgi blade steel as “14C28N.”
Here are the details of that steel:
https://www.materials.sandvik/en/products/strip-steel/strip-products/knife-steel/sandvik-knife-steels/sandvik-14c28n/
Along with that blade steel is a full flat grind and a stonewashed finish. It’s a great combo.
Retention
The pocket clip used on the Corgi is similar to other Vosteed knives I’ve seen (like the Nightshade and the Raccoon) The pocket clip is a nice deep carry clip. The clip is held in place by two “over/under” TORX screws (around T6, I think).
You can see below that the pocket clip has a nice shoulder and fairly accessible “mouth,” so using the pocket clip is easy.
The pocket clip is not reversible, and can live only in the place seen above. Just for some orientation (which is important, as discussed above), holding the knife in such a way that the clip is being grasped (for example) by your right-hand pinkie finger and the button lock is at that thumb, the blade will open properly. In other words, the clip aids in grip for opening the knife and this really seems to be a right-handed knife.
Conclusion
You probably could have guessed if you ever read any other knife post I’ve written, but I wish the Corgi was just a bit smaller. Maybe a 2.4″ blade with everything else proportional, and this knife is probably my absolute perfect knife. I love the button lock. The micarta is fantastic. Full flat grind? That’s my jam. And while a blade length of “under 3″” (ok 2.99″ is under 3″) still falls into the EDC category (or even “smaller blade” category!), it’s still bigger than I love. But if 3″ is suitable for you, I think you’ll find the Vosteed Corgi micarta knife to be fantastic, at $59.
