Look
The Vosteed Ankylo Vanchor lock knife is a nice-looking knife. In particular, I’m pleased that an orange knife is available. Even more pleased that that orange scale version has black accents. It’s a very sensible colorway. Unfortunately, Vosteed didn’t send the orange and black, but that means I’ll just have to go out and buy my own!
I do like the black scale version, though. The Vosteed Ankylo Vanchor lock knife is a fairly large EDC knife, with a blade size of 3.18″.
Below you can see the fully-open view. Vosteed calls this a “reverse Tanto” – ok, to that, but I normally don’t love Tanto blades and this blade is exceptional.
There’s minimal branding.
As far as “look” goes, I think you’ll do better in the “looks” department by opting for one of the frag scale options – available with green, orange, or gray scales.
Open / Close / Lock
Opening the Vosteed Ankylo Vanchor lock knife is easy enough. There are two flipper tabs, so you can open it as a front flipper (my preferred way shown below) or as a thumb flipper (not shown because I lack the dexterity to not cut my body off at the thumb by doing this). There’s also a generously-sized thumb hole, for flicking (flicking vs flipping). Plenty of options!
Once opened, closing the knife is as easy as pressing this button (seen in profile below). You can then use gravity or a flick motion or your hand to close the blade.
This button has a nice deep action. It’s also possible to press this button when the knife is closed. Doing so basically puts the blade under “zero resistance” and you can fling it open (without even touching the flippers or the flicker hole).
So this knife offers the three F’s! Flick, Flip, and Fling. The pivot is “caged ceramic ball bearings” and is very smooth.
Build and Feel
The build quality is very good. There’s a nice heft to this knife. It feels like it might “carry big” but it’s quite pocketable. These smooth aluminum scales add to that, no doubt.
The reverse Tanto blade is perfectly centered.
Both flippers are nicely finished, too.
Below you can get a better idea of the flippers. I LOVE how little exposure there is on the index finger flipper. It’s just enough, and all you need is just enough!
There are no detents along the blade swing path. Once in motion, the knife can fully open without any pauses.
Inside the aluminum scales are more metal liners. These are probably stainless steel.
I wasn’t able to capture it in photos, but it’s possible to see the locking mechanism in action when depressing the button, too. A metal tab goes into that slot in the blade (between the two flipper tabs). When the button is pressed, this tab slides out of that slot.
There’s no filled-in backspacer, but the back of the knife does have a standoff.

Also above is the Vosteed Ankylo Vanchor lock knifebeside a TorchLAB BOSS 35, an 18350 light. I reviewed the aluminum version of that light in both 35 and 70 formats. I also reviewed that specific edition, the “Oveready BOSS FT Collector Vintage Brass” 35. I love it!
Below is the Vosteed Ankylo Vanchor lock knife with the Civivi Elementum. I still use that knife so much!
Steel / Cut / Oats
This knife sports Elmax steel. I believe all versions use Elmax, too
Again, the blade shape is a “reverse Tanto.” Whatever about the name, but it’s a wonderfully useful shape!
Along the back of the spine is a good bit of jimping. It’s unlike that you’d need this whole area for flicking the blade open with your thumb, but it’s there anyway.
Retention
A stainless pocket clip is screwed into the Vosteed Ankylo Vanchor lock knife. The clip is not reversible to any other position, so it provides tip-up carry only. It sits far enough down the scales to provide a mostly deep carry.
I’ll add that the Ankylo is probably thinner than you’d guess, and really sits on a pocket very nicely.
A lanyard hole is built into the scales. The hole has a stainless liner; a very nice touch!
And of course, finally, there’s this nylon pouch by Vosteed.
Summary and Conclusion
First off, I like the Vosteed Ankylo Vanchor lock knife a lot. What I like more is that there’s a black and orange version available. I also appreciate the sizing of this knife – it’s positioned large enough to allow a small version later. 🙂 With that said, the 3.18″ blade is ideal for EDC. The new locking mechanism seems very nice – “V-anchor” (which Vosteed also calls “Vanchor”). Action with the caged ceramic ball bearings is very good and Elmax seems like a great choice.
There are a couple of weeks left on the Kickstarter, so go get in on the Vosteed Ankylo Vanchor lock knife!

This is an exciting lock design… Seems like it really cleans up the lines that get interrupted by button locks, compression locks, axis locks and even the oldies like liner locks & back locks.
I very much like what Vosteed has been doing pretty much since they started.
Let me know if you need a home for this one!
