Corgi V 295 Vanchor Lock Knife Review
The Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife uses a “Vanchor Lock” and Micarta handles. It’s a fairly small knife, and the Vanchor is an interesting lock!

Versions
There are so many versions of the Corgi. I’ve reviewed a few of them, including a Corgi V with orange handles. They’re all great! This one differs in that it has Micarta scales and an N690 blade.
Price
This model of the Vosteed Corgi V knife sells for $89. The price ranges from around $79 to around $149, and some models (including this very one) are currently unavailable.

Look
The Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife fits nicely in the Corgi lineage from Vosteed. They’ve used Micarta on Corgis before, but this is the first Vanchor Corgi I’ve had with Micarta. It looks great, of course.
One side of the scales (above) is flat, but the reverse has a frag pattern milled into the Micarta.
In the case of this review sample, the blade is brown, following a “Copper Dune” colorway. I love it.
Open / Close / Lock
Mainly, the Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife is a flipper. It can be flipped two ways.
The first is what I’d consider a more traditional flipping style. That is flipping with the index finger right over the top of the blade. Note you don’t flip (in this way) via the flipper tab.
It’s also possible to flip with the “flipper tab,” but you’ll more likely use your thumb for that option. (This is my least favorite option for any knife!)
The other way to open the Corgi V is probably the best way. You can disengage the Vanchor lock and flick the blade out with a wrist motion. It’s the same action as you’ve seen all the people open Benchmade Axis locks quickly. It’s very good. Also very quick. And conceivably threatening? Nah…
Notably, the button has action on one side only. But since you’ll squeeze the button (and less “press” the button), you can do this with either hand. Thus, flipping the Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife open is the most simple opening option, and also ambidextrous.
When the knife is open, this button pops out. I would estimate the travel depth when the knife is open to be over 2mm and under 3mm.
Build and Feel
The Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife is very straight, and in this case, has Micarta scales. If you don’t like Micarta shame on you (kidding!), but there are plenty of other options!
The build quality is very good. But that’s no surprise – all the other Vosteed knives I’ve handled have been great, too. There’s no backspacer here, but the metal liners keep the knife very stiff anyway.
They say this is a caged ceramic ball bearing. The action is very smooth!
Blade centering is very good.
This one has Micarta scales (so not metal) but does have skeletonized metal liners. Again, perfectly stiff!
The Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife has minimal branding. On one side is just the brand name.

Above, you can see the Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife with the Civivi Elementum in orange G10. I use that knife so much!
Here’s the knife in hand:
Below you can see the Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife with the venerable Convoy S2+. The version below is a custom laser-engraved Convoy S2+ host by GadgetConnections.com. I did a full post on an engraved orange host right here! Or go straight to GadgetConnections.com to buy your Convoy S2+ now!
Also in the photo above, my Standard Reference Material (SRM) flashlight is the Hanko Machine Works Trident, an 18350 light. While I have not reviewed or tested the Gunner Grip version seen here, I have tested a Hanko Machine Works Trident Total Tesseract in brass. I love the Trident, and it’s a striking contrast to the inexpensive Convoy S2+, another great SRM.
Steel / Cut / Oats
Another difference in this Corgi V and other Corgis is that this one uses N690 steel.
If you want more info about N690 steel, visit this site: https://tsprof.us/blogs/news/n690-the-modern-standard-of-a-knife-steel
The blade offers a flat grind and, in this case, a “Copper dune” color coating.
According to coltellimania.com, which produced this image, the Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife does appear to have a drop point blade.
Retention
The Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife uses a bent-wire (or “paperclip”) style pocket clip.
The clip is held in place by one TORX screw.
It’s a good clip, and I like this one just as much as I like the other style (as seen on the aluminum scale Corgi V, here).
The clip can go on the opposite scale, but can’t switch from being tip-up carry.
Vosteed includes their improved nylon pouch with the Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife. No zippers, just hook/loop closure. I really like this improved pouch!
Summary and Conclusion
First, I love the Copper Dune colorway. It may pop better on knives that have full black scales (not Micarta), but the Sand blade still looks great with the natural Micarta look. In an unusual turn of events, I like the low-profile flipper tab on this knife (but will still never use a thumb flipper). Vanchor lock knives are still great because they keep my digits out of the blade pathway and reduce potential injuries. That is very much appreciated, and I like it! I don’t believe I’ve had an N690 steel knife before, and I have no complaints (but I have not sharpened it, or used it enough to need to sharpen it.) For $89, this Vosteed Corgi V 295 Vanchor lock knife is a great knife!
