Look
The Vosteed Chipmunk liner lock knife is a fairly “muted” (or “murdered out”) black knife. The G10 scales are grippy and look nice, and all the appointments are black, too!
The knife has minimal branding.
I still don’t know (or don’t remember? What year is it) what this little gingerbread man means on the Vosteed pivots. It’s cute, though!
Open / Close / Lock
This is a flipper. You can even flip it multiple ways! But it’s also a thumb-stud opening knife. There are a ton of options for opening this knife.
First is the way below. There’s a flipper stud on the back of the knife. This feels like the way I default to, but actually using the thumbstud is much easier (because that’s what I’m used to and good at.) Also, simply, the thumbstud works great.
Next the lock – this is a liner lock knife, and works great. I never had any lockup issues, and the liner lock seems perfectly poised right in the way to keep the blade locked open.
Now let’s circle back to opening. Here’s what I reach for first when opening the Chipmunk: this stud on the back!
But here’s what works best for me. This thumbstud is properly exposed and easy to flip. It’s a nice opening option.
And finally, there are a couple of jimping ramps on the back of the blade. If you’re prestidigitatious, you can probably use this without cutting off your body. I can’t.
Normally you’d hold the knife differently to use this area – you’d flick it with the side of your thumb. But I’m a monster.
Build and Feel
Build quality on the Vosteed Chipmunk liner lock knife is good. There’s nothing I immediately say “This should be better.” But I also feel like this is the right price range for the Chipmunk.
There aren’t any detents in the blade swing.
I love drop point blades and I like Vosteed’s take on that here. The Chipmunk has a sort of Tanto-esque back but a decidedly drop point belly. It’s nice.
The spine is not rounded but not sharp. If properly motivated, you could strike a flint with the spine.
The blade is appropriately centered.
It’s hard to make out the backspacer detail here, but I’m fairly certain this is G10.

Below you can see the Vosteed Chipmunk liner lock knife with the venerable Convoy S2+. The version below is a custom laser-engraved Convoy S2+ host by GadgetConnections.com. I did a full post on an engraved orange host right here! Or go straight to GadgetConnections.com to buy your Convoy S2+ now!
Also above is the knife beside a TorchLAB BOSS 35, an 18350 light. I reviewed the aluminum version of that light in both 35 and 70 formats. I also reviewed that specific edition, the “Oveready BOSS FT Collector Vintage Brass” 35. I love it!
Below is the Vosteed Chipmunk liner lock knife with the Civivi Elementum. I still use that knife so much!
Steel / Cut / Oats
Vosteed went with 14C28N steel on the Chipmunk.
Everydaycommentary says “In the budget steel department 14C28N is really great. It has been for a decade…” That’s good enough for me!
Retention
The Vosteed Chipmunk liner lock knife comes with a pocket clip attached.
The clip provides a “deep enough” carry for good balance.
The clip is removable (two TORX screws) and also can be moved to the other side.
Vosteed provides a clip blank, too. It can also go on either side.
Vosteed provides a “next generation” of nylon zippered pouch. The zipper is closer to the edge, and I love it.
Summary and Conclusion
I love small knives, and the Vosteed Chipmunk liner lock knife is a small knife. I also like drop point blades, and this knife had that. The price is reasonable. There are many opening options. I don’t even need this many opening options! It’s great to see more small knives coming to market, and I think the Vosteed Chipmunk liner lock knife is a good option.
