A bunch of versions of the shard exist (and most seem to be available.) There are various carbon fiber handle versions, some anodized titanium, coated and uncoated handles – the list goes on!

Look
All of these Shards feature a reverse tanto blade, which I always consider on the aggressive side. It’s also a flipper, and aside from the actual flipper tab, is overall overall very slender.
One side has blackwashed titanium and the other has a copper carbon fiber inlay. It’s a very nice finish!
Kansept seems to like this copper inlay carbon fiber. It’s the same look as the Foosa Slip joint.
There’s minimal branding, which I appreciate.
The blade has a very matching black finish. It’s not exactly the same “black stonewashed” look, but then, the blade is steel not titanium. But it matches appropriately.
Open / Close / Lock
The Kansept Shard blackwashed titanium knife is primarily a flipper. Below you can see the flipper tab – it’s very prominent!
In fact, I would describe this flipper as aggressively prominent. I am sure the designer Kim Ning did extensive testing (as well as leaning on 20 years of experience in knifemaking) to understand the tab needs to be this tall, but I’d like for it to be smaller!
Flipping the knife open goes very smoothly, though.
The large hole in the blade can also be used for “thumbhole” opening, though I find that to be much less effective (and harder).
Below you can see the lock. It’s a frame lock and as on many other Kansept knives, there’s a stainless steel wear point screwed into the frame lock area. I usually describe these as “replaceable” but the point is not really replaceability. It’s that using stainless here means you’ll never wear out the lock at all!
Build and Feel
Build quality of the Kansept Shard blackwashed titanium knife is very good. I like how slim the knife is (again aside from the proud flipper tab). The knife overall has a very nice heft!
You can see below that the blade is perfectly centered.
I can’t see where Kansept describes the pivot. Usually, if their knife has ceramic bearings or whatever, they’ll say. Whatever the case, the action is smooth (particularly if you get a strong flip!)
The back side h as standoffs but no full backspacer.
A Torx pivot screw is accessible on both sides.
The blade has an interesting spine. Along maybe 70% of the spine there’s a taper. I suppose this is a characteristic of a reverse tanto blade shape.

Also above is the Kansept Shard blackwashed titanium knifebeside a TorchLAB BOSS 35, an 18350 light. I reviewed the aluminum version of that light in both 35 and 70 formats. I also reviewed that specific edition, the “Oveready BOSS FT Collector Vintage Brass” 35. I love it!

Steel / Cut / Oats
Kansept has used S35VN steel on the Shard. Along with the minimal branding, you can see the other info below – a Kansept logo, the blade steel, and the model number.
I’d call the blade “long.” It’s just 3.48″ though, so not really that long. Anyway, because the knife is otherwise fairly slim, it does ride nicely in a pocket!
Retention
A titanium pocket clip is included. There’s just one screw holding it in place.
The other side does not appear to have a pocket clip area but that screw at the far right is in the same position as the pocket clip screw. So there’s a chance that this clip is reversible. I do find that unlikely though, because it’d be unusual for a pocket clip to be held in by just one screw (and not also a post or something else that we can’t observe in the photo below.) So don’t get your hopes up to flip the clip!
The clip has a nice retention and plenty of room for thick pants or a MOLLE or whatever. There’s not really a place to attach a lanyard her.
Summary and Conclusion
The Kansept Shard blackwashed titanium knife is a very nice knife, particularly if you want to get into the copper carbon fiber game. If you love a slim but long flipper, the Shard is a great choice. And besides all that, there are so many choices for finish and look, you can almost certainly find one you love!
