Kansept Turaco Titanium Knife
Here’s the Kansept Turaco titanium knife, a drop point S35VN Jared Price design. The blade is pleasantly short but the knife is fairly full-bodied and sleek!

Look
I’m a fan of small knives! Because of this, I was immediately attracted to this Turaco. It’s a “small knife” – at least in the blade length. The look is of course, fantastic – there are smooth titanium scales and a very shapely drop point blade.
It’s just a great package!
The blue accents set the design off. All the screws are blue!
There’s minimal branding, including the model name (Turaco) and designer’s name (Jared Price), as well as the JRP logo.
Open / Close / Lock
The Kansept Turaco titanium knife goes a different direction from many of the other Kansept knives I’ve shown lately. There’s just one way to open the Turaco. It’s a flipper (which I love!) but the design allows only (or “ideally”) thumb flipping.
Well, I’m terrible at that and have cut my hand off enough times with thumb flippers that I’m wary. I can open the Turaco very flippily with two hands but have not developed the required skill for opening it one-handed. I can do it. You could do it. It’s very doable. But (for me) it’s safest to do it with two hands.
Here’s approximately how you have to hold the knife when opening with one hand. I can not do it with any other grip that doesn’t look just as cumbersome.
When opened, well, it’s great!
The Kansept Turaco titanium knife is a frame lock and it does have Kansept’s typical stainless steel wear accessory on the lock.
Unlocking the knife with one hand is easy enough.
Build and Feel
As I said, I love small knives! This one on paper would appear mostly small, but in practice, it feels bigger. The build quality is great, including these “bronze anodized” titanium scales. They’re smooth but “matte” somehow. They aren’t grippy but they are not slick either.
One of the bonus aspects of this being only a thumb flipper is that the lines are super clean. There is not front flipper or thumbhole or anything else.
The blade is perfectly centered. Probably to the micron.
To go along with all the other clean lines, there’s minimal jimping on the blade. Part of it is where you need for flipping.

Also above is the Kansept Turaco titanium knifebeside a TorchLAB BOSS 35, an 18350 light. I reviewed the aluminum version of that light in both 35 and 70 formats. I also reviewed that specific edition, the “Oveready BOSS FT Collector Vintage Brass” 35. I love it!

Steel / Cut / Oats
The Kansept Turaco titanium knife uses S35VN steel in this drop point blade.
I love drop points – they’re the knifiest. They feel somehow refined and capable, while still being work-friendly. Which is to say, you can whip this guy out at work to open boxes without too much fear of scaring co-workers.
Retention
A pocket clip is attached to the Turaco from the factory. It’s a shaped two-screw, anodized clip.
The clip can go only on the frame-lock side. This does leave the other side very clean!

The backspacer (which is more than just standoffs) also has a blue anodized posts where a lanyard could be attached.
And finally, there’s Kansept’s usual pocket pouch.
Summary and Conclusion
I love the way the Kansept Turaco titanium knife looks and I love that the blade is “only” 2.85 inches. I also love small knives but the Turaco doesn’t really hit that genre for me – it feels like a fairly normal-sized EDC knife. That’s not wrong or bad, but a small version of this knife (with possibly a front flip option) would go a long way with me! As it is, it won’t replace my small knife but will be a fantastic addition to the knife rotation.
