Versions
I believe this specific “Friendship” version of the Olight O’pen Mini 2 brass pen is not for sale. But you can buy different versions of his pen in aluminum – Green and Black, at least! There’s even a “seasons” set (which may already be sold out, sorry)!
Price
The aluminum version of the Olight O’pen Mini 2 pen sells for $9.99. Or you could get a 4-set of various colors representing the four Seasons for $35!
Short Review
I love short pens! That should be no surprise because I built a modified Bic Clic Stic pen (which I still use and love, and recommend!). This Olight O’pen Mini 2 brass pen scratches that same itch. It’s tiny! In fact, this pen is shorter than my modified Bic Clic Stic. I love that this pen is brass. The refill writes fine. If you like bolt action pens, you’ll like this bolt action pen. I consider it a great Friendship benefit with Oligh! I hope you got yours, too!

Build Quality and Disassembly
I’ve opined about a similar pen by Olight – also a brass O’Pen Mini. I like it fine and the Olight O’pen Mini 2 brass pen is a very good update. Not that you can buy either of them now, but you might be considering the aluminum version(s).
First, the build quality is still excellent. This version seems a bit slimmer than the previous edition, which I appreciate. This version also gets rid of the flutes, which I also appreciate.
Only the tail of this pen comes off (despite there being a seam at the tip, it does not separate there.) These threads are very smooth and will make for a great ink-swapping experience.
Note that the aluminum versions do have holes throughout the body, showing the ink refill.
Olight calls this refill the “O-Refill” and it’s a 0.7mm ballpoint. Refills are available at Olight, too. I have a suspicion that Parker refills will work here, but I don’t have any to test. G2 Mini refills are definitely too long (but… you might be able to modify it to work. You’d need to change both the front and back end, though.)
One thing I really like about this pen is that the tip is lined with stainless. So you don’t have to worry about the brass wearing out.
Size
0.39″ x 4.13″ and 0.56oz (for the aluminum versions).
Here’s the pen in hand.
Here’s the Olight O’pen Mini 2 brass pen with the venerable Convoy S2+. The version below is a custom laser-engraved Convoy S2+ host by GadgetConnections.com. I did a full post on an engraved orange host right here! Or just go straight to GadgetConnections.com to buy your Convoy S2+ now!
Also above is the light beside a TorchLAB BOSS 35, an 18350 light. I reviewed the aluminum version of that light in both 35 and 70 formats. I also reviewed that specific edition, the “Oveready BOSS FT Collector Vintage Brass” 35. I love it!
Below you can see a more brassy size comparison.
Retention
The Olight Open Mini brass pen includes a pocket clip that is attached and non-removable. The clip is fairly stiff.
I really appreciate that the clip does not extend past the joint between the front and back of the pen. It’s a minor note, but nice.
Lock
The Olight Open Mini brass pen is a bolt-action style extend/retract pen. I’m not a huge fan of bolt-action pens. This one is fine.
This bolt goes both ways, though. Forward (toward the tip) extends the ballpoint pen. Reverse (toward the tail) extends the screw-in pencil tip. More about the pencil below.
Writing
From the factory, the tip is wax-sealed. The tip is 0.7mm and a ballpoint. Refills are available (linked above) and inexpensive.
The refill used here is one sort of specific to Olights. You might find one or two here and there that fit but generally you’ll need to get this refill from Olight.
I believe Parker refills could work, and I’m fairly sure you could modify a G2 Mini refill to work.
However, there’s a 3D printer that designed a file that I think allows the use of D1 refills. They’re thin and narrow (tube-like) but with the adapter, you can use a whole world of refills including all types of ink and tip sizes, etc. Here’s that page. I can’t find the exact file just now, though!
Pencil
The Olight O’pen Mini 2 brass pen offers a pencil too! To extend the pencil, just bolt “the other way.”
The pencil tip is just that – a tip. There’s no body or anything else on the pencil. The lead (or graphite, or however specific you want to be) literally screws into a sleeve. Now, this isn’t very much pencil! But Olight says it’s good for “600m of writing.”
I have no idea how much 600m of writing is. But chat GPT is good for all sorts of stuff, including estimating this! Assuming you write in cursive and write on a college-ruled paper, one page is around 400 feet of writing. That could vary wildly though! If you write with lots of hearts and flowers, it’s probably less. If you write like a serial killer, maybe more! Whatever the case, by Olight’s claim of 600m, you can expect to get around 5 pages of writing out of one tip.
That said, the tip of my pencil broke while in the closed position! It still writes fine, but now I’m probably already down to 3 pages of manifesto.
I could probably use a stylus in place of this pencil. I really do not need this pencil! Or at least make the replacements something I can source myself such as actual mechanical pencil leads.
Even a marlin spike might be neat there! Ha!
Conclusion
What I like
- Very small size
- Made of brass
- Neat fluted design
- Appropriately-sized (short) pocket clip
- Antiqued finish on the brass
What I don’t like
- Limited refills
- Bolt action
- Pencil (I don’t really need this)
