Look
The Vosteed Marmoset is a fixed blade knife. It also doesn’t look as small as it is – really hone in on the size comparison section below to get the best idea!
But the look is fantastic! I have ended up with a couple of these, both with the black coated blade. They are both very nice, but don’t sleep on the blue handle with the satin blade. They’re all great!
The “sand” G10 has a sort of “inside liner” too. In this case, it’s gray or very light blue.
With a handle this short, you’ll probably want to throw a lanyard in the lanyard loop. When set up properly, this should give you another bit of area to grip.
Open / Close / Lock
The Vosteed Marmoset is a fixed blade knife! Not a folder or any other opening mechanism. But you’ll absolutely be keeping this knife in the sheath below. So you still do have to “open” the Marmoset.
To do that, hold the handle as seen below and push the sheath off in a forward direction. Or if you’re wearing the Marmoset as a neck knife, you can just pull the knife straight out.
As a fixed blade, there’s no lock! When it’s out, it can cut!
Build and Feel
Again, check below to see the actual size of this knife. It can tend to look bigger than it is. But the feel is great, and it’s perfectly comfortable in my hand for normal uses.
The blade spine is completely lined with jimping.
One side of these screws are screws, and the other (below) is the post side. That makes a very clean look!
The lanyard hole is massive! I’m sure there’s an important reason, and it is fine regardless. But it’s just huge!
The Marmoset is a full-tang knife, of course.

Above, you can see the Vosteed Marmoset Sand fixed blade knife with the Civivi Elementum in orange G10. I use that knife so much!
Here’s the knife in hand:
Below you can see the Vosteed Marmoset Sand fixed blade knife with the venerable Convoy S2+. This is a brass version, which is a good bit heavier than aluminum, but has the same dimensions: 24mm in diameter by 117.5mm in length.
Also in the photo above, my Standard Reference Material (SRM) flashlight is the Hanko Machine Works Trident, an 18350 light. While I have not reviewed or tested the Gunner Grip version seen here, I have tested a Hanko Machine Works Trident Total Tesseract in brass. I love the Trident, and it’s a striking contrast to the inexpensive Convoy S2+, another great SRM.
And finally, here’s the Vosteed Marmoset Sand fixed blade knife with a couple of other fixed blade knives that I really like. Top is the Vosteed Mink, and on the bottom is the Kansept Valk. I really love both of those. I’d love a Marmoset-sized version of the Mink!!
Steel / Cut / Oats
Vosteed calls this a cleaver-shaped blade. It’s black coated, too. All the Marmosets are cleaver blades, but they’re not all coated.
The steel is “AEB-L.” KnifeSteelNerds.com has all you want to know about AEB-L! A brief summary from that link:
developed as stainless razor blade steels which required a combination of high hardness and sharpness, along with good wear resistance, blanking, cold rolling, and corrosion resistance. Those properties also make a good knife steel for many applications.
According to coltellimania.com, which produced this image, the Vosteed Marmoset Sand fixed blade knife does appear to have a cleaver blade.
Retention
The primary way to carry the Vosteed Marmoset Sand fixed blade knife is with the included sheath. We’ve already talked about that above, so here’s step two: you can carry the Marmoset as a neck knife with this included lanyard. It’s very sturdy!
But here’s more detail about the sheath. It’s a hard Kydex sheath and has a pocket/belt clip attached.
The belt clip can easily be moved around the sheath.
The belt clip is very snug, and when on (for example) blue jeans, it provides enough tension so that you can pull the knife out without a second hand.
It does look like some of the other versions of this knife have a different belt loop attachment (but with the same sheath).
Summary and Conclusion
I love small fixed blade knives. I love cleavers, too! The Vosteed Marmoset Sand fixed blade knife is a fantastic version of both of those things. The price is even great, at (when in stock) $50! I believe the satin or stonewashed blade finish may be nicer looking, but that just comes down to preference.
